Still Not There Yet

dont-you-dare-give-upWOW, it has been a long time since I’ve made a post.  As you read from the title, I have yet to make it as a Screenwriter.  Have I felt like throwing my hands up like I normally do and say F*ck it, yes, several times.

I’ve sent out close to  one-hundred and fifty query letters in reference to my screenplay “Sometimes Love’, and received one response.  He requested my synopsis, and advised me the story wouldn’t work for a Producer/Director he had in mind, so in my opinion, it wasn’t all bad.

I’ve decided to move on to another screenplay Read more

New Screenplay in the Works

screenplay-235x230It’s been a while since I’ve made a post.  Still nothing from either two of my celebrities I attempted to stalk, but it’s all good.  They have people I need to go through, and I somewhat understand that.

So far, I’ve emailed out about fifty query letters in search of representation from either an agent or manager.  I did hear from a few people directing me to their website to fill out a survey of some sort, and I heard from someone who requested a synopsis of my script.  I sent it to him, and he responded hours later and said, “Thank you for the synopsis but this won’t work for the producer I had in mind”.  I thanked him for his time, and advised him if he changes his mind, I’m still in need of an agent.  It has only been about a week since I emailed the letters, so I’m patient, and I’m going to email a bit more this weekend. I Have Tapped Out

dont give upSo after three days of stalking Common and Tika Sumpter, I finally tapped out.  I’m still not giving up, but I’ve decided to concentrate on searching for me a reputable agent, and continue with trying to finish my second screenplay, “TORN”.  I’m just as excited about this one as I am, “SOMETIMES LOVE”.  I already have a general idea who I would like to play in this one too.

No, I have not given up with pursuing Common and Tika, but I have to do it the right way.  As I said before, I cannot picture anyone else playing these roles for Sometimes Love, except Common and Tika, and I have not really thought about the worst-case scenario.  However, I’m moving my focus to obtaining representation.   Wish me luck!

COMMON & TIKA ALL I ASK OF YOU IS TO READ THE FIRST 10-15 PAGES

First, I would like to thank Vince, owner of dURDy Work Multi-Media Graphics for designing my movie poster, he did one hell of a job, and I am so glad I stumbled upon him.  He also designed my website header, so be sure to check him out; magnificent work and reasonable prices.

Second, I want to thank my cousin Sherry, owner of Sherry Designs for creating the trailer for me as well.  She did an excellent job with putting it all together… so THANKS FOR BOTH OF YOU!

If you’re visiting this page, then I hope you are as excited as I am, and you’ve contributed with PERSUADING these two celebrities.  I’ve been working on this script since 2010, and I’ve always envisioned the two of them steaming up the silver screen; two beautiful people.

I took this route because I did not Read more

Weekend B.O. Dec. 13-15

madeaWeekend B.O. Dec. 13-15 (What Happened To ‘Madea’?) By Sergio

Both The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug and A Madea Christmas did not live up to expectations this holiday movie season.

Smaug was projected to earn something near $82 million, but instead made some $73.7 million this weekend, which is a slight comedown and not a disaster by any means. But it’s below what the first Hobbit movie which earned just under $85 million its first weekend last year. But who’s crying?

However, some people are saying that, stretching out J.R.R. Tolkien’s slim 300 page book into a mammoth, extended three part tentpole movie franchise was obviously too much, especially Read more

WOW! Things are Finally Taking Shape

clipart wowFinally, everything is starting to take shape, but  as I normally do, I get excited before its time, and end up being disappointed, and the reason is I can be somewhat impatient.  Plenty of money wasted, but my screenplay is ready, and I would like to give thanks to Tammy Gross over at proofmyspec.  I finally received a “Consider” which is good in the screenwriting world, especially for aspiring writers.

I would like to give another thanks to Vince over at DurdyWork Multi-media Graphics.  He came through for me on another project and it turned out way better than what I had hoped. Read more

Reacting To Armond White’s Torturous Reaction To ’12 Years A Slave’… | Shadow and Act

By Tambay A. Obenson

While I haven’t yet personally reviewed the film on this site (I want to see it a second time before doing so), if you read my interview with director Steve McQueen, as well as my September 25 piece on slave movies, titled Despite Success Of ’12 Years A Slave,’ Many Stories Set During The Period Still To Be Told, you’ll know that I was underwhelmed with 12 Years A Slave (I first saw it about a month ago).

However, I certainly don’t despise it. I just feel that praise for it has been excessive.

But if you think I’ve been “anti” 12 Years A Slave, you’re in for a “treat” in S&A film critic fave Armond White’s review of the film, published this afternoon.

Maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that White didn’t care for the movie; after all, it won’t be the first time that he’s critically-obliterated a film that’s seemingly universally-loved. Read more

Screenplay is in Surgery

aff_typewriter1Before I get started, check out my new website header created by VINCE over at dURDy WorK Multi-Media Graphics.  I have some other work I may hire him for again closer to the end of the year, and I refuse to say what it is, but it’s going to be big.

So much has happened since my script was in the E.R.  I made the necessary changes, but I knew it still wasn’t ready.  I appreciate Ms. Pembroke for pointing out a few problems, but I decided to post an ad on Freelanced.com with hopes of finding someone who would take a little more time with me because I need it, and within twenty-four hours I received over thirty proposals.  Some were novelist, but had never worked in screenwriting, and some were just way out of my price range.

I had it narrowed down to about four people because of price and credentials, but Read more

Will Smith’s Success Story and His Struggle to Reach the Top by Life It Up

Will Smith had once declared powerfully, “I don’t know what my calling is, but I want to be here for a bigger reason. I strive to be like the greatest people who have ever lived.” It is this constant urge to ‘strive’ and to struggle that has made him one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood. Smith’s inspiring rise to the top in his career only reaffirms the fact that if you are looking for success, you need to have the right mindset to propel you up to the top. You can succeed only when you believe in yourself and your ability to act – like Smith, you need to believe that you are here for “a bigger reason.”

Born to an African American family in West Philadelphia, Smith had a rough childhood after his parents decided to separate when he was thirteen. The divorce however, came through when he was thirty-two. Smith never allowed his family problems to affect him and began his rapping career while he was still in his teens.

As the “The Fresh Prince”, Smith achieved huge success for his hip-hop work and went Read more
